SVA Graphic Design Portfolio Exhibition
March 29-April 9, 2010


Exhibition featuring portfolio work by students in the School of Visual Arts BFA Advertising and Graphic Design Department, including advertisements, campaigns, digital videos and 3D work. Curated by ADC past President and Department Chair Richard Wilde.

The exhibition is free and open to the public. Art Directors Club Gallery, 106 West 29th Street, New York City. Hours: 10AM-6PM.

Perry Bard: Video in the Age of YouTube

Electronic media artist and SVA faculty member Perry Bard will speak about participatory culture and her current project Man With A Movie Camera: The Global Remake, which invites people around the world to create a mash-up of the 1929 Russian film. Bard has shown work at The Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Sao Paolo and Montreal Biennials; the Reina Sofia National Art Museum, Madrid; and Shang Elements Contemporary Art Museum, Beijing. Presented by the BFA Fine Arts and BFA Visual and Critical Studies Departments.

Boris Groys: Everybody is an Artist
Thursday, January 21, 7pm
Boris Groys is professor of Russian and Slavic Studies at New York University. He will discuss the ways that contemporary art has become a mass cultural practice, with artistic rights beginning to manifest themselves as general human rights. Groys is a critic, curator, essayist, media theorist, philosopher and author of Art Power (MIT Press, 2008) and Medium Religion with Peter Weibel (Walther Konig, 2009), along with several books on the works of artist Ilya Kabakov. Presented by the MFA Art Criticism and Writing Department.

Pzza Chronicles: Talking About Film

In anticipation of its fall 2010 launch, the MPS Live Action Short Film Department at SVA presents a series of monthly conversations with distinguished members of the New York film community, hosted by Department Chair Bob Giraldi. This month, the guest will be Richard Wilde, award-winning designer and chair of the BFA Advertising and Graphic Design Department at SVA, who will talk about creativity in filmmaking and education.
