Sponsored by The New York Times Company, this educational event will bring together widely renowned leaders in technology and Internet safety.  Facebook, Microsoft, MTV and other social media outlets will be available at the summit to speak to parents about what they can do to protect their children from cyber bullying and encourage responsible online behavior.

Counselors, child advocates, and representatives from the NYC Department of Education, the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development, and the NYC District Attorney’s Office will also be at the summit, as will cyber bullying and cyber safety expert, Parry Aftab, founder of Wired Safety.com and creator of CyberBullying.org.

We’re thrilled to bring together this group of experts from industry, government and advocacy so we can provide parents and guardians the tools and information they need to keep their children safe in today’s digital age.

MAD Artists and Youth Program: Artists from the Museum’s exhibitions work with teens on portfolio reviews, and art making workshops just for high school students. FREE

Portfolio Development Workshops: This is a series of seminars and workshops targeted towards college-bound high school students, designed to enable them to meet and learn from artists, curators, and other museum professionals. Each participant has the opportunity to have their artwork and artist statement critiqued by curators and professional artists.

Portfolio Reviews: Three times a year, MAD gives college-bound high school students the opportunity to receive portfolio critiques from curators, artists, and other art professionals.

Museum of Modern Art:  MoMA In the Making
Free art making workshops for teens, no previous experience necessary. This summer’s offerings include: Shred, Thrash, Carve: The Visual Language of Skateboard Culture, Multiples Madness: The Art of Reproduction, Beyond Pink and Blue: Sexuality and Gender in the Arts, and CLICK@MoMA: Digital Media Classes for Teens.
All classes are free and open to all teens 13 – 19. Application and Letter of Recommendation needed.

Jell-O’s Big Adventure – The 2011 Jell-O Mold Competition has taken Jell-O out of the cafeteria, but now it’s time to take it out of the kitchen altogether and into the world at large! This year’s competition asks designers to explore the everyday uses of this wobbly, delicious, shape shifting medium. Student-led teams will work with designers to develop and create molds using 3-D printing technology (Makerbots) to compete for prizes and recognition in the following categories: structural integrity; creativity; taste; aesthetics; and best use and showcase of Jell-O. This year’s Jell-O Mold Competition partners include Core77, Four and Twenty Blackbirds, Papabubble, Holstee, and more!

Attn: NYC high school students, please join us for a behind the scenes look at the world of architecture and design. Located in Lower Manhattan, SHoP was founded in 1996. The projects encompass architecture, fine arts, structural engineering, finance and business management. SHoP has won numerous awards, including the 2009 National Design Award for Architecture Design by the Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum. SHoP’s work has been published and exhibited internationally, and is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art.
